That way I know all my expenses and can throw away the paper I don't need which also simplifies my life. I also use my online banking rather than paper statement so I can keep it all up to date. I do pretty much the same as you but instead of collecting receipts and looking through bank statements, I add all my expenses to a double-entry accounting package before I do my budget.
